Well, luckily enough it happened in the driveway here in the frigid Northeast. If it had to happen this was the place. Lucky I guess. Went to start it yesterday morning, cranked, fired started but wouldn't idle and then stalled. I re-keyed the ignition again, same. On the third try no click, nothing, just all power off. Waited about 10 minutes and as if something re-set the cab power came back. I keyed the ignition and off it went again. Found the battery terminals able to be moved by hand. Connections were clean, but not as snug as you would like them. Snapon load tester showed battery ok, but a little low on volts. It's been on charge for 8 hours.
I've had a squealing noise, (I've suspected the alternator for sometime), have replaced the idler pulleys and finally today the alternator itself as preventative maintenance. It's the factory original 105 amp. Its been showing signs that the bearings / brushes have worn appreciably by the black dust caked on the outside of the case at 12 and 6. I remade all the grounds too as a precaution.
Im going to re-install the battery, lube the connections and see what happens. Hope it was loose battery cables. I've never been a big fan of the side style terminals.
Has anyone else experienced this phenomenom with these trucks? Mine is originally from Arizona, part of the reason why I bought it and has never been problematic.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
