so my buddy has a 2005 gmc duramax 6.6l LLY, it won't start, tries, but wont fire. sounded like a fuel pump issue to me, but he says he brought it to a "buddy" who works at a shop that told him it was his injectors and all 8 needed replacedto the tune of 4600 dollars for the whole project, i don't know a lot about diesels, but A)that sounds rediculously overpriced and B) all 8 injectors go out at once? really? any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

the problems for not getting fire
1.fuel pump
2.fuel filter
3.injactors
so try to replace them or try to clean the injactors and replace the fuel filter try to clean all fuel lines

ya thats what i figured, its just he's strapped for cash right now and cant afford to be swapping a 500 dollor pump and 4000 dollars in injectors, man i knew there was a reason why i drove gas trucks, diesel maintenance is expensive! lol

Did anyone hook a scan tool or a tech II up to it yet? That could tell ya what's wrong with it...... And that's ALOT cheaper than just randomly replacing parts in the dark......

Imo the odds of all 8 injectors clogging at one time is super rare, like go play the lottery rare. I had a car that had 2 injectors clogged at the same time, when they replaced them they used an injector cleaner and ended up clogging the other 4 plus the two they had just replaced. This is what the dealership called a hot flush, that's probably what they want to do in your case.

That happened to my Dad's 05 LLY and the ECM went bad. They are hard to find and his truck sat at the dealership for almost 2 weeks before they located another back east somewhere. I do agree though that the cheapest thing to do at this point is have the codes read with a scantool and hopefully it will point to the problem before he starts throwing money at it.

Mine wouldnt fire up a few months back. I could prime the fuel filter and eventually it would fire up but once i shut it off i had to do it all over again. what i was told was to prime the fuel filter and the prime "button" ,for lack of better words, should get hard. I could pump and pump and it would never get hard. Your buddy could try this and see if it helps. For my truck it was the diaphragm in the fuel filter housing. It was cracked and was letting the fuel pressure leak down. Hope this helps

he needs to drain some fuel out and get a sample. we get more diesels in for cruddy fuel than anything. has he ever done injector cleans? microbacterial growth is a big injector killer too. Wouldnt beleave how that stuff grows in diesel fuel
the enjectors may only be available in all 8 for that year. On the new'r rigs we can only get the injectors in packs of 4
