    Default After market stereo

I am interested in installing an after-market stereo in my 2007 Trailblazer 3SS. Has anyone here done that? According to crutchfield, there is a part necessary to keep the On-Star and door-chimes working.

From what I can gather, the part (http://tinyurl.com/33ojgf) takes the pre-amp output from the head unit, adds the On-star, and then outputs via the factory harness to the Bose sound system.

Does anyone have any experience with this part (or one like it)?

The reviews for that particular device don't put it in a very good light.

I think what concerns me the most is that:

If you have to use your preamp outputs to connect to this connector, then I guess you can't use them to connect to an aftermarket amp setup.

So what if I want a completely aftermarket stereo, but also wanna use my On-star and door chimes?

I would love find someone who has tackled this particular problem...

Depending on whether or not you're willing to live without XM, it looks like Peripheral Electronics makes some devices that work without needing to use the preamps off the new head unit. Give these a look:

    GMAH24
    - use when not retaining BOSE amp

    GMAH24B - retains BOSE amplifier

    GMAHCM - chime module

These devices are easily more expensive that what Crutchfield is offering, but don't have quite the downfalls, either.
