Is your head light switch the old pull out knob or switch?

That would most likely be the rocker switch.

I have'nt had the pleasure of a rocker switch failing...yet. But the old pull out switch was famous for failing like that.
Pull knob out to (all on postion) under dash there is a button in the switch body, push it in and knob should come straight out. Remove dash bezel and replace switch body. If its a rocker I can't help ya. I see you have a 90 and 86 truck??

Ya know, I thought he was referring to the '90. But I see now that he didn't specify. Oops
