    Default Fuel gauge issues

I have a 2000 Silverado 4.8, and my fuel gauge rarely indicates the correct fuel level. once i fill up it shows empty, and the low fuel light comes on. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Fuel pump module. They were junk from the factory. The contacts on the intank module were easly corroded by gasoline...
Sadly the only fix for this is to replace that module which means dropping your tank.

Fuel pump stopped working the other day (left me on the side of the road) and I had to drop the fuel tank and replace it. (the shop quoted me $650 and I did it for $150 !) This fixed the fuel guage too which hasnt worked in years.

the sender and fuel pump modules on those are seperate

take the sender off the pump and pop the cap off. more than likely you'll see one of the wires in the sensor broken

hook a DMM up to the sender connector and do a sweep test. you'll find your dead spot

I know this is an old thread, but as I said, I replaced the fuel pump/sending unit in 2010, and the fuel gauge has started acting hinkey again in 2014. Guess I'll have to revisit the unit and see if there is a better quality one out there.
