anyone know how to get to the governer to the motor in the 3.5L I5 colorado??

The governor would be in the ECU. You would need a programmer like the hypertech power programmer to be able to adjust, or disable the governor.

As much as they are a nuissance the governor is there for safety reasons, and probably shouldn't be disabled. But that's just my opinion.

What does the governor limit the top speed to?

I would agree with Trailleadr. I wouldn't disable the gov. unless you have made mods. to your vehicle that would allow for higher speeds. For instance... I had a 1997 Trans Am WS6 that was decked out for speed. Performance Engine, Suspension, Clutch, Exhaust, tires the list goes on and on. So of course I straped the ole' Power Programer on it and removed the gov. Also if there were a gov. on my Motorcycle it would be off in a minute(although they prob. wouldn't sell to many). However my Yukon is quite happy not being allowed over 100mph.

Don't get me wrong, I feel your pain with the governor. I had a '01 ranger that the governor wouldn't allow more than 92Mph. It was embarasing when little dodge neons could blow me away on the highway. especially when I knew the engine had waaay more to offer.
But your safety should come first.

the governor lets me top out at 97...but for the most part i lose power to the gov. im not tryin to go too fast..i just want all my power

I don't know if anyone makes a programmer for the Colorado, or canyon yet. We've got some Colorado owners that might know better.

The speed limiter is in the PCM. You will need the HPTuners program and cable to connect your laptop to the OBDII port. Another way is to get your PCM reprogrammed by PCMforless.com.

I've had mine reprogrammed and the truck is a totally different beast. I do have scan gauge to monitor the engine parameters, upgraded wheels/tires, suspension, intake and exhaust. Not only has the speed limiter been removed but the overall driveability has been improved as well. The fuel tables, ignition advance, shift points and pressure, throttle position actuation and torque management have all been tweaked to improve throttle response AND fuel economy. I have been able to take my truck to 120 mph on an empty stretch of highway and the truck still had more acceleration. It's a definite "must-do" IMO.
