what should i expect from a 04 silverado 2500hd with 88K on it?
So, someone close by has one of these for sale for a very good price. It's an 04 2500HD, crew cab, short box. Got the LT interior package with power/heat seats, mirrors, etc etc. Mileage is 88,800 something miles..Also has a large brush guard and spray in bedliner I think.
I'm curious what I should expect with this truck - It's a really good price, so even some minor repairs won't really matter, but I want to know what I'm gonna be in for before I commit to buy.
Here's a couple pictures of the truck:
Please let me know what you think..

Maintenance records etc?? Also is it an 8.1L or a 6.0L?? Auto or stick? From what i have read and from my buddies who have owned both motors etc, they are god runners, and they will last quite a long time.Mike

And that's good news! I've got a 360 mile drive to and from school every couple weeks...can't have this thing die on me enroute.
I did a quick VIN search and it did say that the truck had been involved in an 'accident/damage reported incident' so i guess there's something to watch out for..There's obviously no visible signs of damage.
The owner says it starts right up, runs smooth. Trans shifts smoothly, 4wd functions as advertised. A/C blows cold..So I guess all good points.

Looks clean... HVAC Acutators, Intermediate Steering Shaft (ISS), Instrument Cluster are some initial items to look at. These are the issues I had with my 04. The ISS was replaced early and has likley already been replaced on your truck. He should have that information. The HVAC actuators would occasionaly start malfunctioning and blow heat out of the drivers side and A/C out of the passengers side. I would just turn the ignition off then back on and it would reset. It didn't happen enough to warrant the cost to tear the dash appart. The instrument cluster when out on my 04 after I sold it to a budy of mine. I think the mileage was around 90K when that happened. $300-400 for the replacement guage cluster. Good luck, It looks like the truck is in real nice shape. Just take your time ask questions and look it over real good. Ask the person selling the truck about any damage or reapirs they have conducted.

Deal is off on this one. I have a feeling this is some sort of scam since I saw the exact same vehicle listed on Ebay Motors in a whole different state. Good thing I did some research before dropping any cash on this one. I thought something was up when the listing owner on Craig's List failed to reply my email questions after almost 4 days and then on a hunch, I searched the vehicle description and found the Ebay link.

EDIT: I flagged the page for improper posting, so it's not viewable right now. Here's what it looked like before:

Something look fishy? Needless to say I'm a little ticked off..reported the person's contact info and other details to Craig's List and Ebay.
So much for that..but at least I was able to find a couple more trucks in my area of similar spec. Going to talk to dealers after the holiday weekend.

I see those ads all over the place. If it looks too god to be true, it is too good to be true! Always ask to meet the person and inspect it first. If they say anything about shipping the vehicle. It's a scam.

The 1500 is still a great truck and burns less fuel. I havent had a 3/4ton since my current truck.
