Wouldn't hurt to move up to 10W-30 if your miles are getting up there. I am switching all mine to 10W-30.

I use 5w30 Castrol GTX with Lucas Oil Stabilizer but my dad uses 10w30 Castrol GTX in his '99 silverado with a 5.3l and that motor ran great until 255,000+ miles and we only put a new motor in it cause dad didnt wana put a new head gasket in a high milage motor like that. But if he woulda changed the head gasket it would still be running great today so use Castrol 10w30 in your 5.3l.

    I thought all GM Engines used 10W - 30

    I use 10W - 30 in mine.
Over 500K on the odometer....(but I believe only around 300K on the engine)

When i had the stock valve covers on, the oil cap said "5w30" across it. So thats why ive always used 5w30 motor oil along with Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I know i talk about the Lucas Oil Stabilizer alot but its an amazing additive.

Yep mine say 5w-30 too. But I do the 10w 30.That lucas stabilzer seems to keep my oil pressure up.And is stays up even when its warmed up. And its not as noisy at first start up of the day.

Any reputiable brand of oil should be fine. As for the weight with that many miles the 10W-30 should be alright... most brands make a high miliage with additives and such all generally will do the same thing. Just make sure you keep up changing all of your fluids, that is what can kill vehicles.
