Default New and Q's about offroading in 97 suburban

I would like to start off by saying im new here. Anyway im gonna be getting my first car soon and it is going to be our 97 suburban that has 180,000 miles on it. I would like to be able to do some offraoding (mostly mudding and some snow) with it but without putting a lot of money into it (considering the high miles) what would you recommend. Also what is the biggest size tire i can fit at stock height? Have any of you taken your 96-99 suburban offroad? If so how did it handle?

I had a 2000 I have used off road. It was just dirt trails, nothing crazy. Had stock rims with BF Goodrich All Terrain tires. Never had a problem in snow or on dirt.

Upgrading Tires would likely make the biggest difference.
Put your $$$ into some tires and Get some BFG T/A KO's.
Great all around tire. Great Offroad but not a hard core mudder. (((For mud get the mud terrains))))
I just got a set of BFG T/A's for my new 2010 GMC savana and they run so smooth.
I have an absolutely perfect ride.
    Love them.

OBS 4x4's can usually fit a 33 inch tire ok (285/75R16 if you're running 16 inch wheels).

I like my Suburban ok offroad. The main disadvantage I run into is that long wheelbase. The thing is just too long to be real maneuvarable, especially when compared to my old BII.
