    Thumbs down catalytic converter

I have a 93 GMC Suburban k1500 4x4 with 190,000 miles. It recently had begun to make a popping sound and stutters after it's warmed up or have driven for more than 5 minutes an the engine seems to be hotter than normal when I open the hood Would this be the catalytic converter creating back pressure after it's warmed up?

Well to see if your cats are overheating, after your rig is warmed up, check the difference in heat before the cat and after. If its extreme, cut them off. Its supposed to b a little warmer before the cat but not a huge difference.

I believe it should be hotter after the cat if it is working properly. The chemical reaction that happens inside the cat creates heat.

kbhawaii, where is the popping sound coming from?

If your cats arent working properly your O2 sensor behind them should be throwing a code.
