    Default 97 chevy engine swap

    i have a 1997 chevy 2500, 4wd, 350 vortec, 5 speed manual, 200000 miles, single cab long bed
    the problem...
the engine wiring harness was ripped off on a cornstalk- distributer and oxygen sensors are also junk.
i have been unable to locate an engine wiring harness as it has to be a 97 with a 350 and manual trans

    the solution????
remove the vortec and computer controlled junk and install a early 80's chevy 350 with a carborator.
-this will bolt onto the transmission correct?
-what year range am i looking at that will NOT have computer engine controlls?
-how can i get fuel to the carb-old style manual fuel pump or stock electric fuel pump or aftermarket electric fuel pump

has anyone done anything like this or seen something like it? thanks for the help

As far as i know the tranny side of the harness is actually in a different side of the junction block than the Engine management harness... You can take the distribution block apart to get to just the engine harness and its all plug and play from there.. Oh and a V-6 Harness will work for your truck as well.. All plug and play. That makes it easier to find a harness..

so basicaly i would just have to replace the intake manifold, distributer, and replace the throttle body with a carb?

so the injectors would just be sitting there doing nothing- will that affect anything or should they be pulled out and plug the holes?

How does a 5-speed 'talk' to a computer?

I think Painless sells wiring harnes assemblies for almost everything & can build one of they don't stock it...

I skipped over the 5speed part. this is a simple swap to a carb the BCM will have issues but i dont think it controls anything

I would think you would be better off to just fix the problem....

I dont see why it has to be a 97 harness, they should be the same 96-99. There are tons of these trucks in junkyards so just go grab a harness and whatever else you need and fix it.

You may not have emissions testing where you are, but it will NEVER pass with a carbed motor. It has to be the original configuration to pass visual inspection, and 96 and up have to be plugged into a computer to be tested and if your computer isnt all there you fail.
