Default Hello! New Guy and a couple of questions..

    Hey guys,

Recently bought a 07 Trailblazer withthe LT package, V8 5.3, sunroff and just 2wd with 36k miles no 3rd row.. I bought it because I like the sunroof in a suv and it's big enough for me and my kids to go camping which we have already and enough power to tow my Supra to the strips!

The only complaint that I have is the gas mileage! I drive it mostly highway and between 65 and 70 mph..I would say about 120 miles per day about 100 of it is highway... I don't get on it very much at all unless switching lanes and getting on the hwy but I'm only getting 14mpg! I tried never getting it over 2k rpms and no ac for 1 full tank and still only got 14mpg..

I did have a problem with the gas cap when I got the SUV.. it would never stay on and when I put gas in it, the gauge would go to full and then drop to empty and do so several times... I went to Autozone and got another cap and the engine light is on and still having the same issue..

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Ryan

    wellcome to the site !!

either relax your right ankle just a bit or switch to a yugo... thats about it on the mpg...
are you refering to ALWAYS getting 14 mpg or is that when MOSTLY towing a trailer?

when's the last time you did complete tuneup? plugs & wires etc... ?
have you switched out the fuel filter & air filter ?
what mods have you done to it or is it bone stock?

    Thanks for the reply!

Nope haven't towed anything yet with it... the truck is bone stock! I didn't get it over 2k rpm for a full tank and didn't use any AC and I still only got 14mpg...

It only has 38k miles on it now, with great tires and pressure.. My Supra with 800cc injectors gets 14mpg with me just flooring it all the time!

Going to buy an intake kit for it and that's about it since I have my fast toy...

So I don't know why I'm getting such horrible gas mileage

I would like to get 18mpg... I've seen several reports of people having good gas mileage... I drive 80% hwy... and don't go over 70 because I use my car for my job and don't want any tickets...

Welcome to the GMTruckClub! I bought a 2010 Colorado w/5.3 V8 and I avg. 18 to 19 mpg with 80/20 highway/city driving. I usually stay just below 2000rpms. This slows me down a little as I have the 4:10 gears. I have not towed with it yet, but I'm sure it will pull well!

Cool hello! new guy and a couple of questions

I had the same problem with aftermarket gas caps for my Silverado and wifes Trailblazer, also purchased at AutoZone. Ended up using caps from GM dealer, no more issues. My wifes Trailblazer has the 4.2 six so I cant help you on the 5.3 mileage question.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help.. I took the Truck back to the dealer to get the windows tinted and bumper fixed... they are looking to find what is wrong with the gas mileage and why my engine light is on...

    Hopefully they fix it all!

I'll let you guys know how it comes out!
