Default Transmission issue 96 tahoe....could use some advice

My 96 tahoe is my work vehicle, every once in awhile, usually at the end of a hot day, it would give me a hard shift when starting off from a standstill, cut it off for a minute and it wouldn't do it again.

Recently while out on the road, I lost all forward and reverse while traveling about 30 mph, there was no noise, only the engine revved up. Trans fluid doesn't smell burnt.

Transmission as of recent had been shifting perfectly, had not had a hard shift in quite a while and it was just like someone knocked the gear shift into neutral. Any idea where I should start?

Sounds like a Valve body malfunction... You will need to get the tranny scanned for codes (it needs to be a better scanner than the basic one the parts stores use) and get the codes and that will give you a great place to start..

Will the valve body cause me to lose all the gears? I know when we started getting the hard shift, we thought about getting a rebuilt valve body, but we used some Lucas and it stopped.

The whole situation just seemed so strange, shifting fine and then nothing with no warning at all. When it came down off the wrecker I did notice a clicking sound like the one we heard when I busted something in the transfer case, that was replaced about 4 months prior with a used one.

Will the 4 wheel drive shift button in the dash cause anything like this?

The transmission likely has a failed reaction sun shell, there is a update for a more robust part.
Been there, done it, got the T-shirt. Got the T-shirt dirty doin it again. Learned not to wear my good T-shirts.

Will the sun shell cause all forward and reverse gears to be gone all at once? I have experienced transmission problems in times past, but have never lost everything all at once without some warning.
