    Default GMC Sunurban 1500 5.7 K Flooding

    Strong gas smell
Floods when coming off of idle

This usually happens after sitting at a traffic light and then hitting the gas pedal when the light turns green. After that, it is flooded - like, severly.

I have changed the MAP sensor and it's harness. I changed the Idle Air Sensor as well.

It really seems like it isn't getting enough air, but I'm wondering if it's not getting enough spark.

My next guess is to change the knock sensor and then look at the rotor and distributor to see if it is a spark issue.

Does anyone know of anything else it could be?

what year & how many miles on it?
whens last time you had tune up to include cleaning or replacing cap & rotor?
have you ran a timing light on it?
is this every time you take off from light or intermittantly? when cold or after driving for many miles?
cleaned the fuel injectors? ( stp in tank ) how old is the air filter?

Also is the CEL on? this will also help you troubleshoot the issue. Since it could also be the Fuel pressure regulator, and or else a spark issue. But we need the year to know more as well.

    It's a 95, under 200K

one year ago I replaced the cap and rotor, plugs and wires, plugs are not fouled

    Have not checked the timing

It is intermittent. It happens more often after the engine is warm

I have cleaned the injectors and the air filter is new

    CEL is not on

Okay, bare with me, this may sound stupid.

Do to the number of miles, I am wondering if the Distributer itself is failing.

Look at the bottom side of the Cap and the tip of the Rotor.

I just went throught a similiar issue, and even though I had just replaced the Rotor and Cap six months ago, the Distributer had to be swapped out.

At the very least, it won't hurt to check out these items.

If the timing is outta wack, the fuel delivery won't work properly, not to mention the spark.

Also, the ignition coil could be failing.

    Well, that's my 2 cents.

Do a search on "coolant temperature sensor" common problem. Coolant temp sensor fails and the ECM thinks the engine is cold so it sets the mixture rich for a cold condition.

X2 on this i had the same problem with my 1988 (same motor) and after a very very very long list of new parts it turned out the pick up coil was melted on the back where i couldnt see.. does the motor ever clear out and make normal power? or does it always feel a little sluggish?
But also coolant temp sensor might help..
