Default '99 suburban Brake pedal to floor/squeaks

On my '99 suburban I am having an issue with what seems to be the rear brakes. The brake pedal goes to the floor, and there is a squeaking noise that comes from the rear every time I push the brake pedal, even when the truck is stopped it still makes this noise when i pump the pedal. I took a look at the front pads which turned out to be fine....my experience with brakes is limited to disc brakes on compact to mid-size cars....So if anybody can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have drum brakes on the back? If the pedal goes to the floor you may have air in the line. Have you checked the shoes or pads? If you have drum brakes on the rear the adjusters could be out of adjustment also. They should be self adjusters that ratchet the adjuster. You might try backing up a few times , not to fast and hitting the brakes hard. This will adjust the brakes. If they are way out you will need an adjustment tool. Screw driver may work.

They are drums in the back, I haven't poked around in there yet so I have no idea what they look like. Somebody once told me they could be adjusted....Where is the adjustment at? I will try the reverse thing first though.

I would have them inspected.. There is a chance that your Brake booster is going out.. Depending on how well your truck stops...

yeah actually the truck stops fine...they are just really spongy....i think maybe i should just bleed them. A guy i work with has a '98 silverado 1500 and his makes the same little squeak noise from the rear when you pump the brake pedal. He just looked at me and said "its a chevy man, chevy brakes suck"....

Well as to the bleeding there is thread by Springthing in here that says GM dealers are the only ones that can bleed the brakes on a 96and up GM truck. It had to do with getting the air out properly. Im not sure if it covers your truck but i would do a little searching before you dive in only to find that you cant do it.

Yeah good call...I just read that entire thread....sounds like that guy was having some fun....sounds like I'm going to be having some fun. I did try the reverse to brake thing...seemed like it made a difference, not significant by any means but the pedal seems a little more stiff.
