    Default 4:10 gearing

I own a 05 silverado with the 4:10s and was just wondering the pros and cons of them. If anyone can help me out that would be great! Thanks

If you do a lot of towing or you are planning on putting 35's under your truck they are great. They're also nice if you put your foot in it from a stand still. But they kill your MPGs. If you are planning on keeping stock or close to stock tires on the truck and only tow occasionally then I might suggest looking into a set of 3:73's. Or even 3:42's if you're not too worried about either one of those. Going to a taller gear will cost you, but they will pay for themselves at the pump.

What size tire are you running? I have 4.10's with 35's and its a good comprimise between off-road and highway driving. I do wish I had installed 4.56's with the 35's.

I had 3:73s on my 2004 Z/71 C/C and @ 65 mph it was running 2000 rpms. On my new one, 2010 Colorado Z/71 C/C has 4:10s (both have 5.3L V8s) I am running 2000 rpms @ 60 mph. Same size tires on both. If I had 3:73s now I'd probably be getting another 1 mpg or so.
