Default 1991 Silverado Headlight Switch not functioning

    '91 Silverado, 5.7L V8
Is it possible for the switch to go bad in a way that will turn on the parking lights, but not complete the cicuit for the headlamps?

My headlamps will not come on.
    Parking lights are fine.
I checked the fuses and they are good.
The ground on the fender well behind the battery is good, and I even tightened him down.

The headlamps did come on briefly.
I pulled into Adv. Auto to pick up some relays (thinking they were bad), tested the headlights and they came on.

So I left and by the time I drove a mile down the road to my office, they no longer came on.

The dome light works, and the instrument panel lights work.
Only the headlights don't come on.

So I am thinking faulty light switch.

    Good place to start?

Is the switch hot? It seems like I remember something about that era of truck having an issue with the switch getting hot and melting. I think you're on the right path.

    Good luck,

I vote yes.. in the several trucks like that i owned i needed to replace three of the switches.. So i would start there, and if that isnt it then you have may have a problem with the dimmer switch, and or else a blown fuse etc.. But id start with the switch.

    Yep.
Seems the light switch swap worked.
Nice quick and easy swap, all of about 10 min.

I pulled apart the old one, and it looked like the contact for the headlights had lost some of its bend, so when it was pushed on by the switch, it was not making contact with the circuit leads.

Yup, I replace my Headlamp switch about every 4 months or so.

But I thought that was because I upgraded the bulbs from 60w to 100w halogens.

Gonna add relays in the circuit soon, to reduce the extra current draw.
