Default 98K1500 Ratcheting noise in front end

I have a 98 K1500 ext cab 4x4 It has 120,000 miles on it and I have been getting this IRRITATING ratcheting noise everytime i step on the brake, i am sure it has something to do with the antilocks or something.. It is to the point now if i am driving only a few miles an hour it does it constantly i have to step on the brake and it clams it down. I pull into a parking space and i come close to hitting the car parked in front of me. WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I FIX IT??????? Hope someone can help me out, Thanks in advance...

Is the ABS light on? Because it is a faulty sensor and you will want to pull the ABS fuse to disable the ABS till you have time to diagnose which one and also so you dont get into an accident.
