    Default Fuel Pump

    i have an 86 chevy w/305 and i want to put a electric fuel pump on it. what psi should the fuel pump run? something for an everyday driver.

    This is carbuerated & NOT TBI right? A Rochester 2 or 4 barrel right? 6 psi is all you need. 7 psi is ok too but if you get a pump that puts out more than that you will need to put a pressure regulator on it too, or it will overcome the float pressure on the needle & seats & flood over the bowl level. Both the Holley offerings are too much pressure, but Carter used to make a 6 1/2 or 7 psi pump. Before you buy, be sure & read the spec sheet, or ask to see the description in the parts mans book as to what the real pressure is. Don't just go by what he tells you.
