Default Towing questions with a new Silverado 1500 WT with 4.3L V6

I have a new Silverado 1500 WT with a 4.3L V6 engine. I would like to pull a U-Haul motorcycle trailer with my bike on it. Do I need to get a hitch or can I pull it with just a ball on my bumper? Also, does the truck come stock with the plug for the brake lights or is that something I need to get installed?
    Thanks,
    Mark

your bumper or owners manual should tell you weight limitations. you *should* be ok with a motorcycle trailer/bike, we pulled similar things with an old dakota on the bumper. Double check your manual though or ask a dealer.

far as the wiring harness, if it doesn't have the tow package it probably doesn't have the harness. However i believe most of them are built where you can get the wiring adapter, and it just plugs into the stock harness. Something like this:

My '05 4.3l worktruck has the trailer towing wiring in a bundle tied up by the spare tire. It ends in a male plug and I needed to get a 7 way plug made for a ford or chevy that it plugs into. It is MFG by Pollack and was at the local camper place for $12.00. I've seen a video about the NBS that has a plastic place for the plug to the driver side of the license plate where they take a similar plug that is made to twist into the spot on the bumper. It was on a trailer hitch makers web site. I had to add mine under the bumper...

I just pull a small bass boat and I use a 7 - way to flat 4 adapter and the ball on the bumper. I added two of those oval connectors often used to fasten safety chains to the trailer into the two 1/2 holes in the bottom of the bumper, they stick out 'Just' enough to insert the hooks on the trailer safety chains...

Thanks. my load would be relatively light. Your setup sounds like it would work for me to. I will look into it. Thanks.

I agree with the rest. If thats all your hauling I'd say you should have no problem.

You should have no problems at all. I have towed a car on a car dolly about 50 miles using the ball on the bumper. This was with a 97 S10 4.3 liter.

    .

I towed my S-10 behind a 88 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 w/ a tow dolly on the bumper...it was my bosses truck and he used it to pull a 21' fiberglass runabout on the bumper w/ a 2" ball. He used to drive like a demon so I'd bet that boat trailer used to get 'air' going up the thruway...

I do plan on adding a receiver someday...
