You may be on to something there.. Something along the lines of an online Vault, and a place to keep the photos of the Items as well since most people dont own a vault that is fire proof. And at least that way they can keep track of them. I need to do the same thing... It would have to be DIRT cheap however since most people dont even do it and they know that they need to have pictures and serial numbers etc for insurance claims.

Glad to see Longhorn was willing to try and help.
They have a pretty good crew over there, Shane the owners son is a pretty decent guy.
I like the idea of an online serial number storage site, I think the idea would appeal to many people.

What if it were like $9.99 per year ... maybe even free and just run ads on the site with a $9.99 premium upgrade. Could sell stuff like GPS tracking chips, lojack for laptop service, whatever else fits the bill. The site then could have people come and run serial #'s for stuff they're about to buy. Might put pawn shops out of business.

Wouldn't you guys be worried about burglars hacking the site & making their shopping lists from your pics & serial numbers of all your stuff? The Pentagon has been hacked 5 times in 3 years. What would keep thieves from hacking that site & finding out where all the expensive stuff is?

Most sites don't get hacked, like facebook, myspace etc. Open portal sites with thousands of people logging into joint-access accounts is the issue. Someone hacks one of those accounts, not hacking the infrastructure. A site would have encrypted information so they would have to guess a password more than likely.

I think that could work, i think for a baisc member ship there should be a small fee.. mabey a dollar or two a year since that will help to keep empty profiles down where people just join and then dont do anything, and if they choose to do that then you at least are making some to get the space paid for. And the premium would be more like allowing them to upload pictures of their stuff as well as allow for the serial number search. There would need to be a bit of the premium package available in the basic package (ie: a certain number of serial number searches etc..) There might be even more to it by allowing people to upload lost or stolen items and their serial numbers. that would help to get a database of serial numbers for people to search and verify...
