Default 98 5.7 vortec fuel smell?

my 98 silverado with a 5.7 vortec has suddenly developed a fuel smell. i checked it all over the only place that appears to be leaking is where the metal lines go into the top of the intake manifold(the oval shaped area on top). could it possibly be the o-rings in the intake where the lines fit? if so how hard are they to replace or can they be replaced? the smell is pretty strong and i dont want to take my 5mo old and 2 yr old any where in the truck. any help or input would be greatly appreciated thanks a.j. indiana

The o rings should be simple, if that is the case but it sounds like the Fuel Pressure Regulator inside the intake is leaking. But you can try and seal the lines up and go from there, but if there isnt any raq fuel on the outside of the motor then 99% chance it is the FPR on the back side of the Spider injector.

Just the Upper plastic intake yes.. there are a bunch of threads on how to change the FPR, and it really isnt a hard job just a little time consuming...

would that be the cause of the my fuel pump running a long time after i shut the truck off. i noticed the other day it seemed to run for a long time after i turn the engine off.

The pump should shut off immediately when you shut off the truck.

On all of mine you hear it run for a few seconds... now it depends on how fast you are at getting out of the truck is wether or not you hear it.

definately longer then 5 sec. i timed it to 15sec before it finally stopped running. a new fpr is about 60 from autozone. i will get one soon cause my gas mileage is seriously sucking right now due to what ever the problem may be.
