99 Suburban 5.7 Vortec with unexplained belt chirping sound
Ok, I have this belt chirp that is driving me crazy. I have changed the tensioner and pulley, the idler pulley, and the belt itself. After changing the belt the sound went away for 2 days and then returned.
None of the pulleys make sound when turned by hand including the alternator, a/c, or the waterpump/fan clutch.
I do notice a slight wobble from my bottom HBalancer Pulley and a mechanic friend thought that the pulley could be the problem. I am thinking that may be it too, either rattling as it is coming apart or the wobble causing the chirp as the belt goes over the w/p pulley on its backside.
Is the bottom pulley a common problem on the 5.7 vortec or can anyone else shed some light before I go nuts and put a bird feeder under the hood to quell the chirp.
Thanks for any help!!!!!!

i have seen where the power steering pulley it not lined up correctly, check to see that the pulley is flush or just slightly on or off of the pump shaft

I'm guessing you just have a bad belt. What brand did you put on? You might try spraying a little water on the belt as it's running to see if the chirp goes away. When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.
