i have a 05 silverado with bose and onstar and i want to put a sub in it. i if i dont want onstar because i will never purchase it do i need the bypass/wire harness for a aftermarket radio? or will the truck throw codes if i dont put it in?

Doesn't the Bose system have a sub already? Are you wanting to replace it, or install an aftermarket amp and sub as well as keep the Bose bits? I don't think the harness matters unless you're changing the head unit too, or looking to add the second amp/sub. If you want to power a sub off the factory head unit, you'll want to use the rear outputs from an adapter, as the chime/onstar/etc… are run through the front driver side speaker.

you can just use a standard harness, no need for the onstar ones unless you want to retain it.
