Default Scan software questions. Plug-in OBD-II Engine Scanners.

I am considering buying scan software for my laptop. This is strictly for personal use so obviously don't need the most expensive unit I can find but don't want a piece of junk either. Anyone out there have any experience good or bad? Thanks in advance for your help, the Grump

I ended up with the GoLink cord which connects to my iPhone. For your laptop there's a USB cord that is about $40. I considered that option, but my laptop is too old and the battery doesn't hold a charge. I also prefer the iPhone cord since it's easier to carry. Not sure about the laptop cord and the software, but I'm sure it'll give you what you need. The iPhone s/w works well, and aside from some minor issues with FuzzyLuke which is where the GoLink uploads, I am getting good usage out of mine.

Make sure you can scan the engine and transmission.

    what's year/make/model of vehicle?

A freebee that works pretty well (dependent on year, etc) is WinALDL:

and you can build your own interface cable for it, supposing your laptop has a serial port.
