Thread: Bent Bumper

    Default Bent Bumper

I have a 98 silverado and it has a trailer hitch on the rear bumper. It looks like the previous owner towed something that bent it downwards a bit, however the bend is not were the reciever is so it could have been something else. I need to straighten it because the hole in the bumper that lowers the spare tire does not line up. I have put a jack under the bumper and all I ended up doing was almost lift the back up of my truck up and top out my jack not moving the bumper at all. Does anyone have any idea how to straighten it out that doesn't involve getting a new bumper?

Since the bend is not where the reciever is, maybe it is not actually bent. Try loosening the bumper bracket bolts where they are secured to the frame, then jack the bumper up. From the way you explain this, it sounds like it might just be an alignment problem

ok, if it's definitely bent then the only way to straighten them is take it off & use hammers or presses, but loosening the bolts & jacking it up may get your spare tire hole realigned.
