    Default Heater blower motor problems

    I've read some other forums and see conflicting answers regarding blower motor problems. I have a 98 c1500 1/2 ton 2WD 5.7L reg cab. I've had it for a year and a half now and the blower fan has always worked on all but 1 setting. It's a 5 position switch (off/low/med/med-hi/high). It was always dead on the medium setting until today. Yesterday, all the speeds quit working altogether(not blowing any air at all). I pulled and cleaned the 25amp inside fuse and 50amp fuse under the hood with no luck. Today every single one works. ?????? I've been reading and been told it's either the switch itself or the resistor going bad or the fan itself.I have noticed lately that the fan has a low pitch growl on the low setting but went away on higher settings. Any suggestions?

    Most likely its your blower motor resistor going bad, it's a common issue on these trucks.

    x2 on the resistor. Replace it - shouldn't be too expensive. Before buying a new one pull the old one out. It will probably be corroded to hell and you should be able to see a break somewhere. That's usually a good indication that it's time to replace. Cheapest place to start besides fuse IMO

    Yeah, when I pulled my old resistor the damn thing had scorch marks all over it

    Is my blower motor going?? I live in cold weather & when I first start my truck & put the heater on, it sqweals,high-pitch noise coming out of it,then after it warms up, it's fine. What't up? any help or suggestions? PS- just so my chevy boy's know, it's should be (what's up, not what't up) PC won't back-space delete.

    Its Blower Motor Reister,I Have A 1998 Chevy 350 4x4 Same Thing Happen.

    Thanks for all the help everyone. As of today it's all working strong. Go figure? I'll go for the resistor 1st if it happens again.

    Unhappy Blower won't turn off!

    Since this thread is called "Heater blower motor problems" I thought I would post my issue here. I have a 2006 Silverado LT 4x4 5.3L GFX package. After I turn off my truck I noticed that my blower motor is still running even after I get out of the truck. It seems to only be blowing out at the floor but when I am driving the duel climate works fine. I tried switching the relays in the panel under the hood by the battery but it still runs non stop. At this point I am pulling the relay when I park so that my battery does not die on me. I'm wondering if it is running because of a short in my aux ignition switch.....maybe? Any ideas on what the problem could be and how I can fix it? I noticed that the problem started after I had washed my truck and it is -30 C here. Please help!

    Hey Adam, I would guess that your relay might be stuck closed, or it could be the switch. See if you can take the cover off the relay & see if the contacts are welded together or burnt, or if the energizing coil is melted.
    I don't think that washing it in sub freezing temps caused your problem, & I don't think your aux ign is the cause either or else all your other stuff would also be running.

    Hello Stephan, I tried changing the rlay already and that didn't make a difference. My next thought is maybe the the blower control module has to be replaced. I would like to be sure because the part isn't all that cheap.
