I grew up on freshwater and I love it, but nothing beats catchin some mahi mahi, probably the best fish to eat in my opinion

all ive fished on is fresh. nothing beats a good fresh northern pike with fresh batter fried in hot oil on buttered bread. IMHO.... :-D

Seirraowner if you can get on a boat go stripper fishing by the second island of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In season you can catch them all day long. They put up a hell of a fight no matter the size. My friends uncle had a boat we used to go out there and by the end of the day we were wore out from fight of the fish.

You dont even need to get on a boat to fish the stripers in that area, get off at the midway turn around and theres quite a few places on the bridge to catch stripers from.
Another good place to fish in Va. Bch is at the mouth of Duck Inlet, lots of Flounder.
Farther back in Duck inlet where the creek goes under Va. Bch blvd is great for crabbing and if you take a trip out to Back Bay and keep going towards N.C. just before you cross in to Knotts Island you'll find a couple sloughs to go crabbing in.
When I was stationed out there I used to take guys from my squadron into back bay in my canoe to do crabbing and brackish water fishing, never came home skunked out there.

I prefer salt water because no matter what species you're targeting, you usually end up catching something you haven't seen before, & some of them are prehistoric looking .... kind of like my ex mother in law
