I've owned a lot of trucks and I've nver had to shift to nuetral before shifting into 4 hi...maybe something new. the older ones we had to back up to get them out of 4 wheel drive. I think you'd do a lot of damage in 4 lo, only because you'd probably end up driving faster, or getting your RPMs up higher than recommended. I've pulled a lot of things, drove thru a lot of mud and snow,. I've only used low a couple of times that I can remember. Always take it out of 4 wheel drive when your done with it so you don;t leave it in accidently.
