Default 2010 Chevy Silverado crew cab z71 4x4 5.3 myc 6 speed trans noise

I have a 3.08 rear end and the truck makes a clunking/popping noise when decelerating to a stop like someone lightly bumped you in the rear end, harsh downshift. It also makes the same noise on the interstate when accelerating and the then then you let off. I took it to the dealer and the transmission mechanic lubed the rear end. It seemed slightly better for a couple of days and then went back to the usual daily clunks. I have another appt Tuesday at the dealer. The transmission mechanic told me they just do this. The truck only has 5700 miles with a 40 k sticker. This makes me sick. I have heard of this similar problem in various forums. I have googled and can't find an answer. I need a mechanic to tell me if this can be fixed or am I just wasting my time. I hate to trade but this noise is too much. I wouldn't even think about Ford as I test drove one the other day. I am seriously considering a Tundra. I would rather fix what I have and not take a hit! Thanks in advance. Brent

This shouldn't be your responsibility since your truck is under warranty, but sometimes you just can't get the dealer to listen to you, so in addition to what the others have said above, I would check the carrier bearing bracket bolts, & the transmission mount bolts.

There is also a GM bulletin regarding the slip yoke splines (clunking) but I can't find it.

Hey Brent I thought of a couple more things to check. Make sure your spare tire is completely secured so it has no foreward & backward movement. These have stumped a few people over the years & would give you the slight thump you hear. Also check the stinger in your hitch & see if it clunks. I would just take it out just to be sure & do a road test.

Thanks Stephan..need all the help I can get..I have read about the nickel plated slip yoke being a great solution. I am going to ask the dealer to perform this install. Will keep you guys updated! Brent.

Im hearing the same thing in my truck, and I thought it was caused by the excessive in and out movement of my axles. Is your problem still gone?
