Whats a Short Wide?

I have been around, in, on, under, and on top of chevrolet's my entire life. But I am embarrassed to say I have never heard the term Short Wide. I'm guessing that its a reg cab short bed but would like to know for sure. Sorry for dumb question but thought Id ask.

Don't feel too bad, I'm not sure either. I was thinking maybe a Reg Cab with a Stepside bed?!? I don't really know though.

I believe it's just a regular cab truck with the short fleetside bed (read non-stepside). That was before the days of the 3 bed sizes we currently have.

a short wide is any truck (regardless of year) that was a short FLEETSIDE bed.

If you don't know the difference between stepside and fleetside you can look in my albums, I've owned both. the black and silver truck was my '89 short wide and the plain silver is my '90 stepside. no reason to be embarrassed we all have questions now and again..

A short wide can be any regular cab, short bed (6.5ft), typically though, the term is almost never used for Ford, and infrequently for GMC. Most purists will call any 67-87 bowtie 1/2 ton with a regular cab and a 6.5ft bed a shortwide.

Thanks guys for that info, I had never heard of a short wide either. We called them shorties.
