Split A/C problem

Gentlemen:
My 2004 3/4 short crew w/ Duramax-Allison has developed an intermittent A/C problem that is exaspirating! The left (driver) side will abruptly kick in to high heat output while the right (passenger) side keeps pumping out cold air as selected. Our dealer presented me w/ two options; one was software upgrade for under $100 and one was duct motor replacement for around $850. Choosing the cheaper route accomplished nothing. Can anyone tell me what to do next? Gotta pull the Scout's trailer from Kansas to So. Dakota for summer camp soon and sure don't want to do that w/ windows down.

You have to change the duct motor. The drivers side is the easiest to get to so be glad it's not the passenger side. It is in the lower portion of the dash just off center to the passenger side a bit. You shouldn't have to pull the dash to get at it. I think the part is $200 or less at www.gmpartsclub.com.
