Rough Idling and Heavy Exhaust Smell??
I've got a 1986 Silverado (gas) that has started idling rough. It starts up fine (a little rough until given strong gas), but after it warms up and is in gear, I can feel it idling rough. Also, I've noticed that it seems to be putting off a heavier exhaust smell now. It doesn't generally stall, just idles rough. When not idling, it runs like it should.
I assume it just needs a overall tune up (plugs, wires, etc), but I'm just trying to see if there's anything else that it could be too. Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the GM truck club. By "heavy exhaust smell" do you mean "fuel rich smell" like unburned fuel in the exhaust? You are probably on the right track with a good tune up. Be sure & check the compression when you have the plugs out. Also be sure & check the air filter & the PCV valve when you do your tune, & take a good look inside the distributor cap. If there is any carbon tracking or corrosion on the terminals be sure & replace it & the rotor. They are cheap insurance compared to wasted time chasing an engine miss.
