    Default Upgarde or Egine Swap

    I currently have an 04 Silverado with the 4.8 in it. Looking at possible upgrading the 4.8 or doing an engine swap. Which would be the best bang for the buck? And which one would be the easiest swap or upgrade. Just want more power than I have now.
    08 GMC Seirra Crewcab 4x4 - 6.0, Stock
    04 Chevy Silverado - 4.8, Stock except for exhaust 3" MagnaFlow System
    04 Turbo Hayabusa - Nothing else to add here.

    You could get a salvage yard 5.3 for maybe $1000 or less- low miles etc.
    My guess is it would be all but a drop in engine.
    Maybe your ECU would just plug in- same for the transmission probably-same intake same exhaust.
    More HP more torque better FE , but no worse
    Much more power potential/aftermarket "stuff"
    Ask more knowledgeable folks here, but probably just drop and play.
    The actual HP and Torque numbers between the 4.8 and 5.3 are pretty close, but real world performance very different.
    You could add the same peak torque and peak Hp to your motor, but it wouldn't be as quick.Peak numbers don't tell whole story-no substitute for cubic inches, and no substitute for OEM engineers efforts.The 4.8 is a bit of a cheapout motor-GM puts their $$ efforts in the 5.3.
    Luckily GMs are usually easy swaps. The 6.0 would be even quicker, but much thirstier.Hard to beat 5.3 for overall "goodness."

    What would be involved in the 6.0 swap you talked about. Sounds like more bang all the way around going this way.

    Hmmmm, you will have to search that, or just repost asking that question
    "2004 4.8 to 6.0 swap- drop in, or fabrication??"
    I suspect it would be a bit trickier- the 6.0 has lots of torque- it might be right on the edge of what the standard AT 4L60E or 4L65E transmissioncan take.
    Usually SB GMs of the same vintage 4.8 5.3 6.0 are pretty close to drop in swaps.The 4.8 and 5.3 are to my understanding- drop ins
    Transmissions, wiring harness ,intakes, exhausts are bolt on and go.
    Not so sure same story with the 6.0.
    It does make much more power torque than your 4.8.
    Repost your question asking exactly that
    "2004 4.8 to 6.0 swap" trans,intake, exhaust wiring harness, ALL THE ACCESSORIES (AC, POWER STEERING, ALL THE pain in the butt stuff you want to know before you start"
    Do a drop in swap, not one of those "you have to fabricate a bit swaps." Fabricate is code for open your bank account- dump all $$-repeat repeat repeat.
    GMs are great because direct drop no fabrication in swaps are common.

    If your gonna go through the trouble of a engine swap than go with a 6.0 (LQ4). They bolt up to a 4L60E. I talked with a guy that put a 6.0 in his truck and according to him he just got a custom tune for trucks computer. The intake and exhaust manifolds are the same.

    I guess I need to look around for a 6.0 motor if it bolts right in and I just need to get it tuned. I could do some other upgrades to the motor before I throw it in.

    Ill look thru the site to see what other members have done to their 6.0's

    Want my truck to sound and run like a drag truck but, still be street able. It is my main transportation. LOL Summer time I break out my Turbo Hayabusa for the nice days to really play.

    if it was me id go 5.3, 102 mm tb/intake mani, mild cam, headers, and full rollers.....then maybe a stall converter

    I would put a cam in the 6.0 before you install in truck. The Silverado "SS" came with a LQ9 (there hard to find) which is externally the same as a LQ4 and a 4L65E which is externally like a 4L60E. You may want to do some upgrades to the 4L60E to handle the extra torque and power.
