Bore 4.8 to 5.3
Has anyone bored a 4.8 to a 5.3? I was told it's the same block, but I've also been told that if I bored the 4.8 I would blow my block quick because the 4.8 was the worst engine Chevy made. has anyone done this? Did it do a lot?

if i'm not mistaken, they're the same bore, just different stroke

What is the difference between bore and stroke? I thought the 4.8 had 4.8 liters of what ever and the 5.3 has 5.3 liters of what ever. Doesnt that mean that the 5.3 is bigger because it has more liters in it? If it has the same block then where is the other .5 liters at? I heard if you reverse bore it to a 4.0 and install a tornado TB spacer you can pick up 10 mpg and 75hp.
Really tho, I'd prolly just add some boost. I would think it would be easier and quicker than pulling the whole motor.

I like the idea of having an LS1 in my truck. My friend has a LS1 and it is quick. Thing runs 13s but mine is gonna be all forged and be turboed with preformance cams.

X2 what Badbrad469 said, its the stroke that makes the diffeance. The 4.8 and 5.3 have a 96mm bore. They both can be bored to 99mm. The 4.8 has a 3.267 (83) stroke, the 5.3 has a 3.662 (92mm) stroke. If you bore a 4.8 to 99mm bore and add a 5.3 (92mm) crank you have a 5.7 (346 cu. in.) Add 2" intake valve to the heads and a LS1 cam, you basiclly have cast iron block LS1. Also the 5.3 and 6.0 share the same crank. The 4.8 and 5.3 have the same block, the 6.0 is a diffeant block. The 6.0 has a 4.00 (101.6mm) bore. Hope this info helps you fiquire out what you want to build.

Yes you will most likely need a custom tune.
