HELP! Broken Front Axle.
I have heard that there are 2 different lengths for this axle... its a Dana 44 with 4:10 Gears.. out of my 1977 Chev Suburban K20
I will post pictures of what broke with this thread.
I need to know if this is true... because I would like to order the new part before I start tearing the truck apart.
Just click on the pictures to make them bigger..

D44 parts are getting tough to find. You might consider swapping in a GM ten bolt just for better parts availability. The 10 bolt has a larger diameter axle tube, and a better wheel bearing setup too.
What size tires are you running, and how much time do you spend in the mud? When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.

Looks like you just need a new axleshaft. No big deal. You should be able to find them pretty easily from various offroad shops.Christopher
