    Default 1997 Chevy K1500 4x4 Problems!!!

I recently purchased a 97 K1500 with the push button 4 wheel drive. About two months ago when I first bought the truck the 4 wheel drive was working fine, then one day I noticed the 2 wheel drive light on the button looked a little dim and when I pushed it the light went out completely. Sometimes when I start the truck the light is on and other times it isn't. However, the last few times the light has been on it has been very dim and will not engage into 4 wheel hi or low. Has anyone had this problem? Im not to familiar with the push button system. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like it's time for a new dash switch.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.

It would be good to check the 4WD actuator on the axle.

X2 or Rich50's post. Also, climb underneath and check all the wire connections, including your dash switch. Loose wires could cause EVERYTHING to not work.

Thanks! Unfortunetly I replaced my dash switch and that wasn't the problem. I will crawl under and check the actuator and look for loose wires.

Probably the actuator. That was a pretty common problem back then.
