    Default Liftgate closing/locking issues?

I have a 2004 LS 2WD. Recently I noticed the remote unlocking stopped operating. With the doors closed, the interior lights don't fade out and I have to push the manual door lock twice to secure the doors. I think it has something to do with the liftgate/rear window not being recognized as closed or something (the rear gate does not lock at all unless I do it manually through the rear panel). I can't find any physical reason why it would think the liftgate is not secure (it is). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is a known issue that can affect the Liftgate Module (LGM) on some vehicles. I take it your 2004 is out of warranty? There was at least one service bulletin on this that I found #03-08-52-002

    1) Check to see if all of the parts of the LGM are dead. a) The rear wiper, b) keyless entry (you said it was) and c) lack of auto-locking when closed. You might also notice problems with your radio shutting off and a couple of other things.

    2) You could check your fuses, but if all of the LGM components are not working then a dead LGM is more likely. There are at least two fuses, #3 & #6 which are located under the rear driver's side seat fuse box. Also check the ground from the module plug back to the body, especially if you still have rear wiper control.

    3) Unfortunately, this module (if it's bad) needs to be flashed/programmed by a dealer from what I understand. It will cost about $350 +/- for the total bill.

    4) Another problem comes when the wires in the boot for your liftgate get cut or split somehow. That's something that can be fixed yourself, if you have the ability. Will have to troubleshoot that though.

    Default Liftgate issues, Trailblazer

Right on target with these symptoms, apparently there has been no recall issued for the LGM. We have two of these Chevs and the 04 started acting like a fun house last Friday. Nice to know the rear gate will not lock, thank you (got lucky on that one for a few days). Please let me know if you have found any recall info on this.

$360 dollars at the dealer, wires in boot were chafed together as well.

    Angry Liftgate problems - more

My 05 TB EXT has had 2 liftgate latch mechanisms replaced now. What a pain in the (Bleep) that is.
Just seems to happen, no warning, no nothing. Just go to close it right before a vacation, and wham! The latch is stuck, now it's crashed closed due to the door whamming at it. So the back door gets bungied again.
Starting to hate this aspect of an otherwise fine vehicle.
