How to program your 2005 Chevy Suburban Keyless Entry Remote FOB

Close all vehicle doors.
Insert the key into the ignition.
Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold down until instructed to release in step 9.
Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.
Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.
Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Thanks Steve. I just ordered a new remote for my Dad's 05, so I will use this when it comes in.

I tried this on My 2002 Silverado and it worked without any problems, saved me the trip and time and$money$ of going to the dealership and have them charge me $85+/- for 90 seconds of work. I am very glad I found this forum.

I know this is for NBS Suburbans, but I just bought a '97 K1500 LT, and I figure that it had the remote door locks from the factory. The previous owner bought it in '02 and had had aftermarket remote door locks installed. The owner's manual shows the factory remotes also unlocked the hatch.

So what I am wondering is what are the odds that this vehicle didn't actually come with the remote power door locks. And if it did, but somebody already installed the aftermarket variety, what if I buy the actual remotes and program them. Would the new ones override the aftermarket ones? The factory ones are also supposed to sound the horn (finder) and turn on the interior lights.

This is really good info, and I appreciate it. One related question. I have an 04 Suburban Z71. Lost my key and fob. With this version of vehicle, the remotes are numbered 1 and 2, which aligns with the vehicle presets for the seats, outside mirrors, pedals, and audio selections. How do you make sure that when you reprogram your old remote and your new remote that you retain this function? I would assume that you do it in the order that they are supposed to be in, but before I go and torch my wife's remote (not a good thing

), I was hoping to find out for sure. Thanks.

EDIT: I found some instructions on eBay (yah, of all places) that states that the order you do them in is the order they go in for the presets. Hope this helps someone else!

Glad that everyone is able to get these programmed on their own and save a bunch of money! Many GM models are super-easy (and sort of fun) to do on your own.
