Default 99 Tahoe - oil filter issues

OK, so like a good boy I'm changing my own oil...went to Autozone and used their book, and got the appropriate oil filter - ACDelco Professional PF 1218......

Went and fought for a while to get the old FRAM filter off...but once it was off, they didn't look the same. More looking and the threaded area wasn't close, and I got hot.

Went online...did some parts number comparisons...I had a Fram PF 3980 on the truck. It does have the oil cooler on it.

So since I had to go to Walmart to get a new battery replaced (only had it since Feb and it ran down and died)...figured I'd get one there. Ended up with the Xtended guard PF3980 (gold box)....and I also grabbed a ACDelco PF 52E. I had wrote down a ton of other comparable filters off Fram's site (who said the company was all bad?? ;))....

And worst yet...when I went to search for the filter I got that was 'too big'...its listed for the same vehicle as well (got that off Summit Racing's website).

So has anyone else had any issues when it came to getting oil filters ??

What's the overall best decision to get ? I'd have grabbed a WIX but didn't see one.

I go with WIX everytime, and i make the parts store guy look up the number so if i happen to get the wrong one i can return it and blame it on them. But pretty much WIX, or NAPA Gold is all i will run in my trucks.

Thats odd that your getting different numbers at different places. I work at an autozone and I use the same filters on my truck. Numbers are STP-S3980, Fram is PH3980 or depending on the fram type the letters will be diff. but the numbers are the same, Bosch-3430, Mobil M1-201, K&N HP-2001, AC Delco PF52.

I know these work because my truck uses the same ones. Good luck!
