    Default Comparison S-10/WT1500....HELP!!

Hi, I am new here and need a little help. I am looking for a bigger truck and cannot find comparisons between two Chevrolet trucks. I have always owned GM, 2 S-10's , a Grand Am, and a 1967 GMC truck. I love my current truck, a 1997 S-10 Ext Cab, HO 4.3 with 3rd door and have owned it since it was new. I am a painter/remodeler/builder part-time and am towing a 5.5X8 enclosed trailer with all my tools in it. My S-10 has 152k miles, and I have always serviced it every 6k with Mobile1 products front to rear. It has never left me and is mechanically sound.

The truck tows fine, pulls good, stopping could be better, and when I hit hills I need a little more gas to get up 'em. The bumper is a little low to the ground when the trailer is attached, and am thinking of getting a load toter. Not sure if it will help that much.

I am also looking at a 2007 Chevrolet WT 1500 Extra Cab with a 4.3 auto. Both trucks are 2wd. Not sure if there is that much of a difference, being the 1500 is a bigger truck with the same engine. My S-10 is getting 14.5 with the trailer in town, and 18city/21hwy without. The new truck is 2 hours away, so its hard to try the trailer with the new truck.

My questions are is there that much of a difference? Will the 1500 tow any better than the S-10 or not? Will the mpg be better or worse? Should I wait to find a WT with a 4.8 or 5.3? I really don't want to sell the S-10, especially if I just go get more of the same or backwards in the swap. After all it seems it is the same motor, just a bigger truck!

Honestly i would stick with the S-10 till you find a 4.8L or a 5.3L (prefer a 5.3) you will get better milage pulling a trailer, and the V-8 wont be outgunned with anything you throw at it since it is still a 195Hp V-6 in a 2ton truck....

Figured as much. Thanks for the information. I tried to find out if maybe that it was geared better for th 4.3, but in a bigger truck, but I felt the MPG would be really bad.

With the S-10 and the Fullsize they both carry the same gear ratios... That is the down side.. So yeah 195HP just isnt enough for doing alot of towing and working with the V-6
