Love the system !
I must admit I do LOVE my music loud and I do miss my speaker box I had in my old vehicle ! I don't have room for it under the back seat in the truck
and I soooooo want to up grade the speakers... ummm and I do believe I may have injured a door speaker :( .
anyway back to you and that ear ! did you get it looked at yet? Similar to a good concert, protect those ears my dear ! you can't enjoy that system if you can't hear it !
Altho I do have to admit, my son, who is hearing impared, when he was little LOVED to lay on the seat sleep where the speaker box was located !2006 Chevy Colorado

as for the ear drum, i had it looked at and they said some of the tissue around the bottom had been torn. nothing can really be done about it other than time for it to heal hence is why i wont even kick the amps on until my ear protection is on. even after it heals completely i do believe ill continue to use the ear pro just to prevent this from happening again. ive blown out my knee and taken shrapnel all over in my left arm and i do believe this ear is making me cry more than anything that has ever happened to me lol. with all of the hail of gun fire, jet engines, bombs, and other crap that has happened to me over the past 13years since i joined the military i never thought it would be my audio system that would blow an ear drum. i cant help but to think in a way its funny as hell lol.94 sub 6inch lift 34inch bfg mt. massive rework project soon. the audio system hit 150.3db so now its time to rebuild and try for 155db. mudpuppy is also getting a new engine, rebuilt ifs, dual 500amp 15.1vdc alts, 5 5,000amp batts, ant the combined wattage with the new system should be close to 15,000watts. this is going to be a wild ride boy and girls.

ok here are some pics that i promised of what i have been doing. the sub box i put the old sub pic next to the new sub pics so you can see in plain sight the upgrade there. the 4 front 6.5mids are audioque pro audio 6.5's 1.5inch coils, 8ohms each, 100wrms each. the 4 tweeters are boston acoustic sr50 series. 2 are mounted in jl tweeter mounts since i didnt receive ba mounts for them. the 2 back door 6.5's are powerbass 4xl's 2inch coils, 6ohms, 100wrms. none of the 6.5's came with grills so i found some alpine grills that worked perfectly. the new 12's are audioque hdc3 12 d1's, duel 1ohm 3inch coils, 1000+wrms each, infact follow the link. if your into subs you might like what you see. http://www.audioque.com/HDC312-Coppe...ofer_p_23.html
no point in doing the video yet, pretty much everything is still in the brake in process so nothing can be set to full tilt yet. about a month to 2 months from now i should be able to let it rip.

This is madness!! I can't even imagine trying to figure out this sound system. I installed some JBL speakers but now I don't know what to do for woofers or an amp. Dang I hope you get a hearing protector sponsor. Do you have afriend in the glass business?
Do you need one? I will just open a mobile glass shop and follow you around ! I will get another business and hire a hearing aid specialist . We will work out some kind of referral system! Hahaha!

as for glass, the glass itself is pretty strong. im not to worried about braking any but the seals have already become a problem. both barn door windows popped out already, thankfully i was in the grass so they did not get damaged and the windshield seal breached. for the barn door windows i used basic window sealant with a coating of fiberglass over the seal from the window to the metal door. then packed the door with 2cans each of great stuff from home depot. so far they are hold in there. the windshield i use 2 part plastic resin to allow a little bit of flex without breaching the seal again. i am some what concerned about the back side windows though. those are pretty big, if the seal fails they will most likely brake from the fall. i have been thinking drilling some holes in the glass and bolting the windows down, or remove the windows completely and replace them with solid sheet metal. either way thats still in the planning phase.
ChevyHD, tell me what type of vehicle your wanting to work with and how much sound your wanting and i could put together some idea's for ya. if you stick to the forums and online stores you can build a nice system without blowing up the bank. everything that i have done so far i think is a little under $2k. thats about 1/5th of what a shop would charge just for the gear alone. and amps are the biggest mistakes people make. they typically get an amp to do just what they want at the time. later on they decide to get more or bigger speakers and are stuck with getting another amp. off the bat you should get the biggest amps possible with your budget. a big amp can be tuned down to run small subs. a small amp is just going to power small subs. imo just dont buy anything else from local stores. after going into the forum side of audio i now see how stores are way over priced and simply dont offer any real powerful equipment.
for example jl audio, there largest amp is 1200.1. most of the places online line will have a 1200.1 as there smallest amp. Audioque's hdc3 12 like what i have only cost $249 before taxes and shipping. its about 48lbs and its comes out around $280 at your door. just 1 of these hdc3 12's perform as good as 1.5 jl audio 13w7d1.5 subs. jl's average price for the 13w7 is around $1200. so for the price of 1 13w7 you can have 4 hdc3 12's. also, audioque is not the only good 1 out there. theres also DD, RE, Treo, DC, PSI, Incriminator, FI, Sun Down, DB, Powerbass, American Bass, and so on.

well latest update here. the 12's are about 50% broke in so i increased the power just slightly to them. with double hearing protection and can no longer sit inside of the suburban. not sure yet exactly how much power the system is pulling from the batts/alt but the duel alts bog down so bad it pulls the rpm down about 300rpm. im sure now that large audio systems can cause decreased fuel economy. new new 6.5's that i installed are purely nuts. i can here them 100% over all of the bass. i walked about a half mile from the suburban and could still make out the songs clearly. i do believe operation NOISE HAZARD REDNECK is nearly complete. i have decided that there will be 1 more of these hdc3 12's added behind the second row seat and 2 more aq pro 6.5's. Aq is coming out with a new line of 220.2 amps so all of my current planet audio bb first gen amps will be getting replaced with 3 aq 220.2 amps. then i believe the project will be at its end.
i already started collecting gear for the tbirds next build. however it will be nothing like this. it will be modest compared to my suburban. i plan for just 4 aq pro 6.5's and 4 super tweeters and 1 4inch coil 1500wrms 15 from re audio mounted magnet side out. the highes will be using the oem supplied jbl 4channel amp. another prototype amp just like the one in the pics with the do not touch sticker is otw. i lucked out yet again and am getting 1 of the last left. he still has 4. its sorta cool having 2 of only 25 amps ever built.
btw an easy way to tell which subs are the new subs is in the pics you can see that the box has alot of added screws. i had to massively reinforce the enclosure when i stepped up from the sdc2.0's to hdc3's.

I thought GM upgrade all their audio equipment years ago . Did they change and put cheaper speakers in and charge me more? I wonder if they will cover it under my warranty.
