Same thing has happened to me a few times in the past. Usually just the passengers side. Only way to fix it was to do just what you did and shut the truck off. However, there was a thread about calibrating the HVAC module actuators. Here it is.http://chevroletforum.com/forum/upla...ctuator-20542/Fifth post down -Alternate Method (w/o Scan Tool).
After doing this I have not had the problem come up again.

Totally off the wall idea here, but I've done it in previous vehicles with success. Sometimes the door gets jammed due to a small piece of grit or particle, rather than an full actuator failure. Find a bumpy road and change the AC settings multiple times to engage the actuator door open and closed. Run the system on high to increase the chance the airflow will dislodge the particle while moving. You may dislodge the culprit particle and find your system is restored. It's a long shot, but on the off chance this IS the problem, you save $300 or several hours of work to get in there and find a french fry tip your kid shoved into a vent that has worked it's way down (or a leaf sucked in from the front.).2006 Vortec Max 1500
