painting billet wheel centers........

yes i want to paint the centers of my billet wheels.my current set of wheels came with my burb when i bought it and the previous owner didnt take good care of them and the centers have soom issues.i spent several hours trying to polish them (hand & powerball)and got them decent looking.anyway in the recent trucking magazine there is a red 69' gmc with a set of boyd smoothie's on it with the centers painted that looks kicka$$.so i was thinking while im saving up for my new rollers i would just paint the centers of my wheels for something different so. here's my question's, what would be the best paint to use and why use it.single stage or basecoat clear coat.any help or comments are welcome,thanks

What are your centers made of; Plastic, steel, aluminum? Power coating would be a nice touch, otherwise I would go with something hard like an epoxy paint.
