Default Gas mileage issue on 03 1500

    Hi,
I just need a suggestion or two. Ok, 03 1500 5.3 of course. I have an issue with weird changes in gas mileage. For about the first 5 to 10 miles of driving for the day I get about 3 mpgs less than I normally would in the highway or wherever. If it is below 55 degrees out side it takes 15 miles to finally get my normal gas mileage which is usually 19. I also noticed that this morning on the way to work i only got 16.6 hwy, and this afternoon I got 18. I did not drive any differently no faster or no slower. Do you yall have any suggestions at all for me? Work is a 90 mile round trip so 2 mpgs makes a big difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you judging your mileage by your trucks DIC center? If so don't. Figuire your mileage the old fasion way, fill up, write down mileage, drive until near empty, refill, write down mileage, subtract those numbers and divide by the gallons you put in.

I usualy do both and the numbers are usually pretty close. I do notice big differences relating to weather though

I've read that when the motor's cold it uses more fuel to get up to normal operating temperature. I haven't driven my Silverado in the winter yet, but my Chrysler 300M was this way. My mileage always dropped during the winter months and I really didn't idle it a lot, I got in and took off within minutes.
