Silverado dinger

looking for the Chevy tech genius who can tell me how to shut off the incredibly annoying dinger on my 2004 Silverado 2500HD. I can't even twitch without the dinger broadcasting over the factory stereo & through the Bose speaker system, can't turn the key on accessory & leave the door open to listen to the stereo uh uh. Have tried cutting the wire to the stereo that the signal comes over, but this shuts down the stereo completely. I'm guessing it will have to be a "re-program the onboard computer" issue Last time I buck up for a late model truck, can't even shut off the running lights, has a switch, but it doesn't work except to turn them on if I want, how bright is that?!!?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Hey Cal,

"I feel your pain!" Right now I am testing a 2007 Yukon XL Denali SUV. It's a very nice vehicle, but my biggest complaint is the horrible chirp/ding sound that it broadcast though the factory instlaled BOSE stereo. There is an option in the DIC to turn it between "Normal" and "Loud". For me, the Normal is about 3x too loud to begin with. That's where the setting is located at, it's part of the factory alert system.

We were going down the highway, my son in the back, asleep in his car seat. I couldn't even change the radio station without this 70 dB CHIRP, CHIRP, CHIRP being broadcast over the stereo. It ended up waking him up, it was so loud.

I'm not sure if there is any way to change this, I'll look into it this week and see what I can find.

Next time you open the door with the key in ignition test too see if you get a chirp on all apeakers, or just the driver front speaker, if its only the LF then theres a solution i know of, if not, im sure there is a way, but i dont knwo how to do it. for the lights, if your in Canada, the DRL are automatic no matter what you do to the switch, the only time the switch to turn off the lights will work are for a) shut off fog lights, and b) if your in park, but as soon as you get into gear, good luck. if it is not too brand new, set the parking brake a click and it should set the lights off, but if its really newer then all ulll get is more chirp chirp the whole time its up.

one other thing, if you want to disable your DRL simply remove the fuse!

The problem I have with it is that there is one Chirp for everything in the vehicle that you press. So when you go through the DIC and save a change ... chirp. Making a stereo selection gives you a chirp as well.

The stereo and other selections make the same noise if the parking brake is on or not. The sound is only coming from the front-left of the vehicle, not from all speakers.

As for the DRL's, I don't know about GM products, but on VWAG products, you can pull the light switch out and put electrical tape over one of the pins and it disables them. Saved me a fortune in headlights, as the length of use went from a little over a year to now 7 years and running without changing bulbs.

BTW, join www.lightsout.org , and get it stopped where it started. Their forums may have a link to disable the DRL's.

I have a '01 1500 z71 and next to the headlight switch there is a dome override button. Press that button 6 times i beleive it is and you will hear a chirp. That will turn off all the automatic headlights, including the drl's. Unfortunattly you will have to do this everytime you want to turn them off. Let me know if anybody figures out how to turn the dinger off, i wanna listen to the radio with the door open but no dinger.

Yep, it's a programming issue. With the miracle of modern electronics it all works together. So, don't fight it, or try to fool it, just go with the flow. If you have an OBD-II scanner, almost a tool box necessity these days, you can reconfigure the dinger. If you don't have a scanner, check out a friendly auto sound specialist (less likely to rip you off than a dealership, and doesn't abide GM dealership dogma). They use a scanner to trigger the Learn VIN instruction when installing/changing a GM radio (or it won't unlock). In the same menu as Learn VIN you can configure Chime level and Chime volume. I'm guessing, you'll be happy if the dinger is set so low you can barely hear it.
