    Default Small block valve covers

On the new GM small blocks the valve covers are very short, they look like they are only about one third as tall as the old tin covers on earlier motors, how is that possible, anyone know?

The heads have more of a recession to them, so the valvetrain is lower down. Not to mention alot of the older valve covers had a ton of clearance and when the bean counters saw that they were spending $.02 more on metal they cut that out. alot of it has been done in the interest of space savings as well.

The main reason they raised the valve cover lip was to help prevent leaks.
