Cowl Hood/Reverse Cowl Hood
What is a reverse cowl hood and what is the difference between a cowl hood? This link says reverse: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...ts+%26+Mirrors
This link just says cowl: http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...k00098736.html
Other than the "cowl" looking like it has three levels, and the "reverse" having just two, I don't see any difference. On a side note, any recommendations on Bolton Premiere or GoodMark since they are both steel? $300 for a steel cowl induction hood isn't bad.2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Vortec V8

I'd go with GoodMark... That's what I have on my '03 Avalanche, and that's what I had on my '95 Tahoe... They are a GREAT hood with virtually no work for them to fit properly... Both hoods I got from them just bolted right up and dropped into place...
As for the difference, I can't tell ya cause I could only get one link to work... But usually a Cowl hood has the raised opening in the rear of the hood (the side closest to the sindshield) and a Ram-Air hood has the raised opening in the front of the hood... I've personally never heard the term "reverse cowl" before...

Sorry about the link not working, here is a "reverse" cowl hood:
Here is the GoodMark Steel Cowl Hood:
You can see in the reverse cowl picture that both sides of the hood are smooth until they actually reach the cowl whereas the regular cowl has the step-up look before the actual cowl. You said on your hood the opening in near the windshield, maybe with the reverse cowl it is near the bumper?

Normal Cowl hood direct air directly to the center of the engine.
I would assume a reverse cowl by the shape of it directs all the air to the very front near the radiator core support area.
Just guessing tho.

being these trucks have F.I.what is the purpose of these hoods other than a better look

Well I'm guessing the principle behind the FUNCTIONAL cowl induction hood on F.I. vehicles is that it helps to bring more/cooler air into the engine compartment, and provides more space/area to help release heat from the engine. Instead of the Cold Air Intake continually sucking in the hot air from the engine, the cowl induction will bring in cooler air from outside and the raised hood will also allow the hot air circulating around the engine bay to disperse easier. Whether this actually happens or is useful is probably a matter of debate, I'm doing it more for the appearance because I think the cowl induction makes the truck look aggressive.

I would stick with the Goodmark hood. I know for a fact that the under side is made by the same Co that makes the factory hoods for GM. So if you have a bug shield it will still bolt right up.. Never even heard of the other Co...08 Z71 Avalanche Mods to date: K&N CAI,Hellwig Swaybars and End Links, Corsa Sport Exhaust, Superchips Programer,IPCW LOF & 3rd brake light and tails, AMI Gas door,Show Hooks and Door locks, Enkei Wheels, with Pirelli tires, StreetScene Bowties, Grant Steering wheel,Muth signal mirrors,SSBC Big Brake kit,Huskyliner Mug gards,Floor mats and Hood shield, McGard Lug nuts and locks, Bedrug, Cervini's Ram Air hood,35watt HID Fog lights, Sylvania bulbs all around ZXE's Highs and Lows, WhiteNight Back up lights,Sirius and HD Radio, SnugTop sitting on deck now Got a Softopper on now,Tempress Boat Hatches....
