Sorry but I don't understand your question. You say "backing my chrome grill white". Do you mean painting the grill white? Look at Bathis (I think thats how he spells it) grill. Its all white and I think it looks good.

X2 Mike, thats an engine block heater, In California you wouldn't one of those lol!
If you do paint it to match make sure you scuff the "chrome" real good, It will flake off if you don't do good prep work. There is an adhesion promoter called Bulldog, they sell it in any paint store and it's made for painting flexible plastics and chrome pieces. It also keeps from getting spider cracks in the clear coat.

Just sand good and use etching primer. It will look much better painted. Paint your bowtie black while you're at it.

That would look really good when you get done with it! I think you need to do step by step for everyone so for those who want to know how to do it can look at what you did buddy.
I was thinking about doing mine but is there anywhere you can get all the chrome stripped off and then the painting would be cake? I know one thing works good on chrome exhaust tips is the acid that you clean pools with or whatever i got from hardware store the guy who owns it i know and mentioned it too me. The only thing is make sure you have gloves on and a mask and no skin showing or out the smell is horrible and it will eat you alive if it get's on you lol. I wonder if this would work on the chrome on plastic grilles by any chance? Anyone know? I think it's sulfuric acid but not positive..

Wouldn't it be easier to get the chrome blasted off then you wouldn't have to prep as much and can put more time into the painting?
