That would look really good when you get done with it! I think you need to do step by step for everyone so for those who want to know how to do it can look at what you did buddy.
I was thinking about doing mine but is there anywhere you can get all the chrome stripped off and then the painting would be cake? I know one thing works good on chrome exhaust tips is the acid that you clean pools with or whatever i got from hardware store the guy who owns it i know and mentioned it too me. The only thing is make sure you have gloves on and a mask and no skin showing or out the smell is horrible and it will eat you alive if it get's on you lol. I wonder if this would work on the chrome on plastic grilles by any chance? Anyone know? I think it's sulfuric acid but not positive..

Wouldn't it be easier to get the chrome blasted off then you wouldn't have to prep as much and can put more time into the painting?

Yeah i mean it shouldn't take much money to do that.. If you think about it the chrome is the main pain in the assss! I have tried sanding down chrome before with my hand and a sander and it's a timely process. I guess you would still have to scuff up the plastic behind it but that will only take 10 min. tops at the most.

If you could have a sandblaster that would be awesome, I agree that the prep work might take a little while on that chrome.Dave V. -- Riverside, California

I like the chrome but if you paint it white leave the white bowtie,i think it would look sick.....everybody paints their bowties black and your truck would look different than the norm.[/SIGPIC]2009 Chevy Silverado LT 1500 EXT CAB 4X4 Vortec 4.8L SFI,K&N air filter,Weathertech Floor Liners ,Weathertech Stone/Bug Deflector, Line X Spray On Bedliner, TruXport Rollup Tonneau Cover, Molded Mudguards, Viper 5701 LE 2 way Security Alarm/Remote Starter, Xm Satelite Radio,BILSTEIN 5100 rear shocks,BILSTEIN 5100 front levelling shocks,READYLIFT 2" rear lift blocks,Goodyear Wrangler Territorys -265/70R 17"

I would probably opt for media blasting for the plastic grille shell, but it's not necessary. I painted all of my chrome parts over a year ago, and while I do have some chipping (can't be avoided) the paint is strong and still looks good. This is an easy DYI project that doesn't require all of the chrome to be sanded off.

How much would it cost to get the grille sand blasted?

As long as the chrome is smooth and not peeling, if you use Bulldog or DupliColor adhesion promoter which is what I use, then make sure you do at least 5 coats of paint, and of course, make sure you have multiple coats of clear on there, and you should be fine. That's the method I would recommend if there are budget limitations for this.
